Dirty-Mud Trekking to Enjoy Fascinating Lagoon


If you are a clean traveller, who choose a comfortable travelling, prefer a clean feet, clean hand and proud of your hygenic life then you should stop reading. This is about a journey to roaming an 887 ha range of area, which allowed you to get dirty! Infact with a little forced, especially in monsoon.

Sempu Island, located in South Malang is actually a conservation area. Beacause of the generous of the forest police, we could get some relaxation and leisure on Sempu Island. First, after pay Rp.100.000,- to move a local boat. You could reach Teluk Semut, which is the first-intouch you with Sempu Islands, and the trekking taste shall begins! Watchout, you may meet green snakes, monkeys, black scorpions, and do not forget to look above, when you hear husky of voice. It’s a Rangkok Bird, famous with its devotion of love.


About 2,5 km, is very short for enjoying trekking huh? Do not feel so down, it may depends on our physics endurances, but it’s far enough for that kind of wilderness. Sempu, like other conservation area, has no paving block, toilets, garbage can or any other buildings. Some path just similar with a bushes blocking the way, so you may need a local guide if it’s your first encounter with Sempu Island. This is what I mention before, the wet grounds makes a muddy slippery ground to step on it. Be aware with old trees aged hundreads years covered and sprawled in a range of view that may surprised you with the beauty of the rain forest.

After 2 hours trekking, average people does, you will greet Sempu Lagoon, Segara Anakan. Please take a look in clear and calm seashore, a bunch number of sword fish is swimming in quiet, backrounded by gently white sands. You would not meet corals here, but if you accept it with a heart, close your eyes, take a deep breath, start opening your eyes and look arounds. A green small hills, some monkeys from babies to adult is jumping from one branch to another looking for a time to steal your meal. Sempu ground to make your tents up is limits, at least 15 tents- with 4 person in. The lagoon is so clean and clear with no waves mess up, allowed you to swim like in swimming pools. Bring your binoculars, and keep noticing Indonesia Ocean you might get fortune to see whales and dolpins swimming by tap in the rocks arounds Sempu Island, near the lagoon.


No littering, is not written in board in Sempu Islands but please allow, keep your garbage and empty it in Sendang Biru Harbour. Tents, sleeping bags, boot, and water is a must. There is no fresh water supply and people selling foods so prepare your breads or bring your paraffin stove to get your energy back.
